It seems that we are truly a deeply divided country.
I personally think that the man is an Inspirational Speaker. I'm also extremely cynical, so he still has a lot to prove to me, that doesn't mean that I'm not hopeful.
Remember that this is not the man that I voted for, but I am ready to get behind a positive, productive message, as long as it is followed with positive, productive actions on the part of our new leadership. Partisanship is too costly, someday America will wake up to that.
It seems that the detractors are already out for blood. I've heard several different people railing against President Obama's call for local action and volunteer efforts from the American people. Their arguments tends to go something like this: "True patriots don't have to be asked to volunteer," or "I've been volunteering for fifteen years and it's insulting for Obama to ask me to do what I'm already doing," or "people are only doing it because he's black," or even "these people would never have been moved to action while Bush was in office."
I've honestly heard all of that and more. Now I'd just like to ask what is more important, the ends or the means? If these opponents of the President are truly patriots, wouldn't they think first of the betterment of the country and not the downfall of their political opponents?
And when did Bush try to inspire and lead us into anything except a costly dead-end war.
I heard this Conservative Talk Show Air Bag going on about how the Celebrities who were endorsing Obama's call to action were basically a bunch of cultists, loyal more to Obama than to America. Maybe that's true, I can't say what their true intentions are, but if their message in conjunction with Obama's gets people to act locally, then does it really matter if they do anything else. If they inspire real people to do something, then their hollow existences may actually prove to be worth something.
When are we going to be able to put our Democrat Hats and our Republican Hats away and work together for a better tomorrow? I've been trying to make this point now for years, this two party bullsh**t is counterproductive (pardon my language). It's gone way past checks and balances, now it's just power struggle and petty partisan bickering.
If (I mean IF) Obama is the man to lead us into change and better times, then why don't we all support that? Do some people really not want a better world. Not to say that we should not be vigilant and mindful of what those in power do, remember America we're supposed to be the ones in charge of that POWER. We've got to pay attention, it's our responsibility. But it's not our only responsibility.
