A New Year

Time to really start training.

It's not really a New Year's resolution, I've been wanting to start doing Adventure Races for a long time now, but last fall my little brother helped me find a regional Adventure Racing Group and since then I've been seriously pumped. But I haven't been great about my training regiment.

So, like most everyone else I know, I'm using the beginning of a new year to try to talk myself into getting serious about training. This morning I've already been out for a 6 mile bike ride (in 15 degree temperatures). Biking is probably going to be my weakest discipline, so I'm trying to train doubly hard there. I know 6 miles on a bike isn't a lot, but it is rather hilly here, and did I mention that it's 15 degrees this morning.

I'm also going to try to use my blog as a training log, to remind myself that I need to train more often and harder.

My first race isn't until July 25, and it's a 70 - 90 mile race which includes: hiking, biking, paddling, orienteering, and off-trail bushwhacking (I wonder if I'll need a machete?).

The only other race I'm going to do this year is September 19, and it's a 40 mile trail run.

There is one I would like to do in May, but I think we're going to be on our family vacation, so that's no going to work this year. Oh well, it's my first year as an Adventure Racer, I suppose I should start with a conservative schedule.

I need to focus on training this year, and possibly building a team. But my eventual goal is definitely PRIMAL QUEST.

You're kidding about the Primal Quest thing, right? 600 miles?!!

No, I'm totally not kidding. 600 miles of the ultimate physical challenge.
Scott is already on board, and I'm sure we can get Jon to do it. The thing is Primal Quest requires Co-Ed four person teams. What do you think, we could do it as a silly sibling gimmick team and maybe even get sponsored by Oprah.

You had me until you said Oprah. I'm out. Mitzy is quite the sportster, maybe she would give it a go.
